Steurs Pays Tribute to Frederik Nolf Tour of Qatar

Tour of Qatar – Today they finished second stage. Stuart O’Grad gained 5 places and Tom Boonen gained 23 places! Yeehaw for you, Tommy.

Geert Steurs (Topsport Vlaanderen Cycling Team) claimed victory on stage 2 and dedicated his win to his former teammate, Frederik Nolf, who died last year during the Tour of Qatar. What he did crossing the line was simply wonderful, beautiful, and reminded me of that time when Lance Armstrong did the same back in the 1995 Tour de France after winning into Limoges crossing the finish line, he lift his arms to the sky to pay tribute to Fabio Castelli who had died just a few days earlier in that race.

Both, Lance and Steurs, have my heart and respect. I cannot emphasize enough how important it is for us, cyclists, to celebrate life and to remember with great respect all those cyclists (professional or not) who have left the road before us.

I take my hat off to you both, Lance and Geert.
